3 sentenced to a year in prison for transporting Hilsa fry in Chandpur

Three persons were sentenced to one year in prison (each) by a mobile court for transporting 30maund of jatka (hilsa fry) in Chandpur's Sadar upazila.

Executive Magistrate Kazi Mohammad Mishkatul Islam sentenced Dulal Majhi (45), Matin Hossain (39), and Zahidul Islam (22) for transporting the jatkas, reports our Chandpur correspondent quoting a Coast Guard official.

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard, in the early hours of Tuesday, arrested the three with a loaded pickup van at the Ferry Ghat area in Hanachar union of Sadar upazila. 

"Coast Guard members raided the Harina Ferry Territory and seized about 30maund of jatkas loaded in a pickup van. The seized jatkas were distributed among the local orphanages and the poor this afternoon in presence of the fisheries officer," said Lieutenant Asaduzzaman, station commander of Chandpur Coast Guard.
