Police arrested three leaders of Chuadanga Swechchhasebak League in a case filed on behalf of a local lawmaker under the Digital Security Act.

The trio, who were made accused in the case, were arrested from Hasan Shahid Chattar in the town around 8:30pm yesterday, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting Sub-inspector of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Masum Billah.

The Swechchhasebak League leaders are Imran Ahmed (32), joint convener of Chuadanga Sadar upazila unit; Tourat Hossain (28), president of Ward 5 unit; and Dishan Ahmed (24), organising secretary of Ward 3 unit of Sadar upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Abu Jihad Fakrul Alam Khan said Solaiman Haque Joarddar, lawmaker of Chuadanga-1 constituency, took part in a workshop at Chuadanga district Shilpakala Academy on August 13, 2020.

The lawmaker delivered a speech of 16 minutes and 54 seconds. But the statement was deliberately cut short and edited, the OC said quoting case statement.

Later, a 30-second "distorted" video was posted on Facebook on August 19, 2020, he added.

On the same day, Sahabul Hossain, vice-president of Chuadanga district unit BCL, filed a case under the Digital Security Act in Chuadanga Sadar Police Station against six named and 40-50 unnamed persons.

After investigation, police submitted the charge sheet to the Chuadanga Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on the same day.

Following the hearing on August 20, the same court issued warrants against the accused.
