22 arrested in case filed over Sunamganj mayhem

Police have arrested 22 people in connection with launching attack, vandalizing and looting at least 75 Hindu houses in Sunamganj's Noagaon village over a Facebook post criticising a Hefajat leader's statement.

The arrest was made after drives were conducted at different places of Shalla upazila in between yesterday and today, reports our Sylhet correspondent quoting Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge of Shalla police station.

He said police are preparing to produce the arrestees before a Sylhet court as police has been confirmed about their involvement with the mayhem following primary interrogation.

Yesterday afternoon, a victim villager filed a case with Shalla police station accusing 700 unknown people in connection with the violence.

Police also filed a case in this connection. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning.
