20 Jamaat men arrested for ‘planning subversive activity’ in Shariatpur

Police yesterday arrested 20 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Char Samantoshar at Gosairhat of Shariatpur district on charges of "planning subversive activity".
 The arrestees are -- Fazlul Haque Howlader, Abdur Rahman Sarder, Nuruzzaman, Abul Kalam Majhi, Abdur Rob Zamaddar, Al-Amin Howlader, Nur Uddin, Imtiaj Uddin Madbar, Moin Uddin Madbar, Imam Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, Baki Billah Madbar, Iqbal Hossain Sikder, Ali Akbar Babul Dhali, Jubair Hossain, Dulal Hossain Bepary, Bayzid Chowkidar, Jakir Hossain, Mosleh Uddin Sarder and Mostofa Kamal.
 "Based on information, the 20 Jamaat men were arrested as they were conspiring sabotage," Tanvhir Ahmad, additional superintendent of police (Gosairhat circle), told The Daily Star.
Fourteen crude bombs and various extremist books were recovered from their possession at the time, he said.
"A case was filed against 31 persons including the arrestees at Gosairhat Police Station under the Anti-terrorism Act," Tanvhir added.
The arrestees were sent to the Shariatpur Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court today with a seven-day remand prayer, according to Gosairhat police.
