1 killed, 1 injured after being stabbed by suspected drug peddlers in Dhaka

A man was killed and another was injured after being allegedly stabbed by suspected drug peddlers in Dhaka's Kadamtali area this evening.

The deceased was identified as Jakir Hossian (50), from Rayerbagh area.

Injured Mojibur Rahman Mohon (32) is recieving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for wounds on his back.

"Jakir and I work as source of local police. When a local drug peddler Liton called Jakir over the phone to go to Nabarun Goli area in East Jurain, both of us went there around 7:00pm," said Mohon.

"As soon as we reached there, at least 20 local drug peddles and their associates including Liton and Swapan attacked us and stabbed us indiscriminately," he said.

On information, police rushed to the spot and took them to the hospital where doctors declared Jakir dead around 8:45pm.

Mohon said that they were targeted for assisting police with information about the drug peddlers.

Jamal Uddin Mir, officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station, said they are yet to know any details of the incident. Asked whether the two were police sources, the OC said "they might be sources of police but we are yet to know who attacked them and why they were targeted."

Sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam of the police station said the deceased used to work as police source. The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
