Govt official arrested over misappropriation of Tk 2.20 crore in Dinajpur

The Anti-Corruption Commission today arrested a former district accounts and finance officer in Dinajpur in a corruption case.

Saiful Islam Mondol is now an official of the office of Controller General of Accounts.

The case was filed accusing Saiful, Sarker Amirul Islam, cashier of M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital and Mahfuzur Rahman, auditor of Dinajpur District Accounts Office, and several others over embezzlement of around Tk 2.20 crore on February 6.

The accused was arrested from Dinajpur town in the morning and a local court sent him to jail this afternoon, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.

Amirul and Mahfuzur were earlier arrested in the case.

According to the case statement, the accused misused their power showing fake bill and vouchers and misappropriated around Tk 2.20 crore from the public exchequer between January 31, 2021 and February 3, 2019.
