Protesting Modi’s Dhaka visit: 12 hurt in clash with police in Noakhali
Twelve people, including four policemen, were injured as locals protesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Dhaka to celebrate 'Mujib Borsho', clashed with law enforcers in Hatia upazila of Noakhali yesterday.
Witnesses said locals brought out a procession in protest in front of Chowmuhani Bazar Central Mosque last evening.
The clash began when they tried to hold a rally on the road in front of the mosque and were resisted by police, our Noakhali correspondent reports, quoting Hatia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Khayer.
Four police personnel were injured and a requisitioned vehicle damaged when the protesters threw brick chips at the law enforcers, the OC said.
The injured law enforcers were rushed to Hatia Upazila Health Complex.
According to witnesses, eight protesters also suffered injuries.
Modi is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on March 17, on the occasion of Mujib Borsho.
Locals were protesting his arrival due to recent violence in New Delhi over India's Citizenship Amendment Act.
At least eight people were detained from the spot.
