Youth held for rape, spreading video

Police on Tuesday night arrested a youth on charge of raping a schoolgirl and spreading the video of the incident on social media.

The arrestee, Syed Turan, 18, is a resident of Joypasha village in Boalmari upazila.

Parameshwardi Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Nurul Alam said thought the incident of rape occurred a couple of days ago but the video footage of the heinous act went viral since June 10.

The 16-year-old victim is student at a local school, the UP chairman said.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Boalmari Police Station Aminur Rahman said after coming to know about the video clips they detained Turan for quizzing.

During primary interrogation he confessed his involvement in the incidents, the OC said, adding that they also asked the victim's family members to file a case in this regard.
