Youth hacked to death in Pirojpur

A youth was hacked to death in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Sajidul Haque Joy, 23, son of late Ziaul Haque Mridha of the area.

The victims are Jamil Mridha, 35, son of late Abdul Haque Mridha, and his nephew Sajidul Haque Joy, 23, son of late Ziaul Haque Mridha of the area.

Locals and family sources said a group of local youths including Ashis, Sohel, Nayeem, Mainul and Hridoy attacked Jamil Mridha, 35, and his nephew Joy with sharp weapons at Daudpur Bazar in the upazila while they were sitting at a tea stall around 12 noon.

They were rushed to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital and then shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) as their condition deteriorated.

Joy later succumbed to his injuries at KMCH around 6:30pm, said Md Sarwar Hossain, a councillor of Pirojpur municipality.

The attack on the two might have occurred over previous enmity, said Md Enayet Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
