Youth gets life term for possessing firearms in Rajshahi

A tribunal here on Tuesday sentenced a young man to life imprisonment for possessing Illegal firearms.

The convict was identified as Farhad Ali, 33, son of Shahjahan Ali of Hargram under Rajpara Police Station, according to UNB.

According to the prosecution, law enforcers, acting on a tip-off, raided the village on September 30, 2013 and arrested Farhad along with some firearms.

A case was filed against him with Rajpara Police Station under the Arms Act.

After examining records and witnesses, Judge Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman of Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal handed down the verdict.

Away in Bogra, two men were arrested with 580 Yaba tablets in Arulia area on Bogra-Noagaon road in Sadar upazila in the district yesterday, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees are Golam Azam, 45, son of Moklesur Rahman, and Mohol Akand, 40, son of Abdul Mannan Akand of Katnarpara in the district town.

On secret information, a team of the Narcotics Control Department raided the area and arrested the two with the Yaba.

They also seized a motorbike from the duo, said Aslam Hossain, inspector of Sadar Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.
