Youth gets life for raping girl

A court here yesterday sentenced a youth to life imprisonment for raping a girl.

Judge Sharif Uddin Ahmed of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Tangail handed down the verdict against Chan Miah, 28, of Pakutia Uttar Para village in Gopalpur upazila.

The court also fined the convict Tk 20,000. In default, he is to suffer six months more in prison.

According to the case statement, Chan Miah raped the girl on August 2, 2008 after getting her alone at her house. As a result, the girl became pregnant and pressed Chan Miah to marry her, but he refused.
