Youth arrested on charge of rape in Madaripur

Police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping a girl after promising her marriage in Madaripur.

The accused, Shahin Mollah (22) of Bolta village under Kalkini upazila in Madaripur, was arrested this morning, said Abdul Ohab, officer in-charge of Dasar Police Station.

The victim's mother filed a rape case with the police station on Friday night, OC Ohab said.

On Thursday night, Shahin went to the victim's house in a village under Baligram union of Kalkini upazila around 11:00pm and took her to an isolated location, where he raped her after promising her marriage, the OC said citing the case statement.

After returning home, the victim revealed the matter to her family. Her mother then lodged a rape case accusing Shahin.

Talking to The Daily Star, the victim's mother demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.

"We arrested the accused after filing of the case. Meanwhile, the victim has been sent to Madaripur General Hospital for medical test," OC Ohab added.
