Yet another rape in Noakhali; this time a 5-year-old

When protests are raging across the country against the gang-rape in Noakhali, a five-year-old was raped in the same district last night.

The incident happened in Mohammadpur area of Subarnachar upazila.

The child accompanied her father to his poultry farm in Char Noman area last evening. When she fell asleep while playing, her father went home leaving her there, reports our Noakhali correspondent quoting police.

Seeing her unsupervised, Helal Uddin (22), a worker at the farm, raped her there, said Md Shahed Uddin, officer-in-charge of Charjabbar Police Station, quoting family members of the victim.

The rapist fled after locals rushed to the farm, hearing screams of the child, he said.

The injured child was admitted to Noakhali General Hospital at night, said Syed Mohiuddin Abdul Azim, the hospital's residential medical officer.

Hearing the news, police conducted a raid and arrested Helal from Mohammadpur area last night.

Today, law enforcers produced Helal before a local court that sent him to jail.

Meanwhile, the child's father filed a case against Helal at Charjabbar Police Station this afternoon.

The girl underwent a medical examination later in the day, the doctor further said.
