‘Yaba trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar gunfight with BGB

An alleged yaba trader was killed in a "gunfight" with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Ukhiaupazila of Cox's Bazar earlier today.

The deceased, whose identity could not be known immediately, might have been from theRohingya community, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports quoting a BGB official.

Thirty thousand pieces of yaba, a long barrel gun and ammunition were recovered from the spot at Rahamater-Beel area under Palangkhali union, said Lt Colonel Ali Haidar Azad Ahmed, commanding officer of 34 BGB battalion.

BGB men on patrolling duty signaled a man to stop, as he was trying to flee the Rahamater-Beel area, the BGB official said.

Instead of halting, the man opened fire on the patrolling team, forcing them to retaliate, the colonel said.

After gunfight, BGB men found the body of the man, the drugs and the arms at the spot, he added.

The body was sent to Cox's Bazar General Hospital for autopsy, while filing of a case was underway, Ali said.
