Police yesterday arrested an alleged member of a yaba trading gang who attacked five journalists in Teknaf area of the district on May 13.

The arrestee is Ezhar Miah, 65, father of Nurul Haque Bhutto, 35, the main culprit and chief of Bhutto Gang, said Kanchan Kanti Dash, sub-inspector of Teknaf Police Station.

Ezhar allegedly helped his son Bhutto and his gang for carrying out attack on five television journalists, he said.

On secret information, the law enforcers raided Bhutto' relative's house in Jaliyapara area of Teknaf early yesterday and arrested Ezhar. But police could not arrest Bhutto, said the SI.

Meanwhile, newsmen yesterday held a rally at press club in the district, protesting attack on the five journalists.

Earlier on Friday, a yaba trading gang allegedly led by Bhutto hacked five journalists of three different television channels -- Somoy TV, Independent Television, and Ekattor TV.

The attackers also snatched their cameras and mobile phones, and vandalised the microbus as well.

Tawfiqul Islam Lipu, a Cox's Bazar correspondent of Independent Television, who was one of the victims, filed a case against Bhutto and his gang after the incident.
