Woman rescued 9 days into abduction
A woman was rescued from Harishswar village under Kaunia upazila of Rangpur district yesterday, nine days after her abduction, police said.
She is Jannatul Ferdous, 24, daughter of Shafiqul Islam of Madhya Kanchipara village under Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha distrct. She is a resident of Mulatol area under Rangpur city and an NGO worker.
Being informed by locals, a police team of Kaunia Police Station rescued her from Harishwar village at around 1.00am. Her mouth, hands and legs were tied, said Momin Mia, sub- inspector of the police station.
Family members said Jannatul went missing on June 16 afternoon while she was returning home from her workplace in the city. Later, her father filed a general diary with Rangpur Kotwali Police station.
Police admitted Jannatul to Kaunia Upazila Health Complex, Shafiqul said, adding that torture marks were found on his daughter's body. The criminals also forced his daughter to take sedative drugs to make her unconscious, father alleged.
The woman told journalists that she was tortured during the nine days and the criminals attempted to kill her several times.
Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Kaunia Upazila Police Station said, her father filed a complaint wuth the police station regarding the incident.
