Woman raped in Noakhali: UP member among 5 arrested

Police today arrested five people including a union parishad member in a case filed over the rape of a woman in Noakhali's Senbag upazila.

The arrestees were identified as Abu Bakar Siddique, UP member of Ward No-3 Bijbag union of the upazila, Didar, Gofur, Selim and Alamgir, said Abdul Baten Mridha, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police facility. 

They were arrested following the victim filed a complaint with Senbag police station accusing 11 persons including the five persons last night over the incident, reports our local correspondent quoting Abdul Baten Mridha, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.  

According to the complaint, the woman had a fight with her husband around a week back and was staying at her father's house in Companiganj.

On September 5, the woman called Didar, a friend of her husband, who later told her to meet him at a park in Feni assuring her to settle the matter with her husband, the complaint added.

The man then told her that he would take her to her husband's house. But when they reached Kazirkhil area of Bijbag, the man with four others forcibly took her to a nearby remote place and raped her.

Following the incident, the woman filed a complaint with the UP member Siddique but he beat her up, the complaint added.

The arrested people were sent to jail today while the woman was sent to Noakhali General Hospital for medical test.

"We are trying to arrest the rest accused of the case," the OC added.
