Woman killed for protesting husband's extramarital affair

A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband following an altercation over his extramarital affair at Pakhimara village in Kalapara upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The victim is Asma Begum, 21, daughter of Abdul Khaleq of Karaibaria village in Taltoli upazila of Barguna district.

Police arrested Asma's husband Rahat, owner of a computer sales and servicing shop in Pakhimara Bazar, from his house.

Asma's uncle Ibrahim Sikdar said the couple locked in an altercation around 11:00am as Asma found Rahat having an extramarital affair with another girl.

At one stage, Rahat beat up Asma mercilessly. She died on the spot, Ibrahim added.

Being informed by the locals, police arrested Rahat from his house, recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy around 1:30am.

Officer-in-Charge GM Shah Newaz of Kalapara Police Station said the victim's father Abdul Khaleq filed a case with the police station yesterday accusing Rahat in this connection.
