Our Correspondent, Mymensingh

Police arrested three people in Ishwarganj upazila of the district yesterday on charge of strangling a young woman after rape.

The arrestees are Jibon Miah, 28, son of Joynal Abedin, Md Aladin, 20, son of Nazrul Islam, and Milon Miah, 22, son of Azizul Islam of Teluari village in the upazila.

On Thursday afternoon, police recovered the body of Moyna Begum, 20, from a water body in Madhupur area of the upazila.

Moyna, daughter of Siddique Ali Bhandari, a day labourer of Teluari village, had been living at her sister Parul's house at Golkunda village since her husband divorced her three months ago.

Family sources said during her stay, a group of local youths used to stalk Moyna and gave marriage proposals on various occasions.

After being refused, the youths, allegedly led by Jibon Miah, threatened Moyna with dire consequences, said police.

Moyna went out of the house on Wednesday and since then she remained missing.

The following day, local people found the body in the water body and informed the police.

Moyna was raped by a gang of five, said police quoting the confessional statement of the arrestees.

It is an irony of fate that Moyna's mother Rumi Begum, the then member of local Atharabari Union Parishad, went missing in 2008.

A week into her missing, her decomposed body was recovered from Gaicha Beel, a water body, in Kendua upazila of Netrakona district.  She was also strangled, said police.

Meanwhile, police recovered the body of a two-and-a-half year old missing girl from Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district on Friday, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

The dead is Radha Rani, daughter of Poresh Chandra Mondal of Rashidpur village in the upazila.

On December 22, the girl went missing from Rashidpur Bazar.
