Police recovered partially decomposed body of a slain woman from her house at Khudra Junail village in Madarganj upazila of the district on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Aysha Begum, 50.

Her husband Abdul Khalek of the village died 15 years ago, and she had been living alone there since her only son Ashraf, 28, went to South Africa for earning six years ago, locals and police said.

Ashraf used to send money to his mother and she invested the money to local people for interest, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Madarganj police station.

"On Wednesday evening, Ashraf phoned his mother several times but there was no response.

Then he phoned his cousin Ahmmad Nabi, 22, and asked him to visit the house and see the matter.

"Next morning, Nabi went there but found the main gate attached to the boundary wall of the house locked from outside.

"As neighbours said Aysha might go elsewhere, he came back to his own house at Bakurchar village in the upazila.

"Around 8:00pm on Friday, Ashraf, again failing get his mother over phone, called his cousin Nabi who reached the house around 9:00pm but found the gate still locked.

"Then he entered inside, climbing the boundary wall. With the help of a torch, he peeped through a window and saw his aunt Aysha lying in a pool of blood on the floor," the OC quoted Nabi as saying.

Police sent the body to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

"Criminals killed the widow by slitting her throat. The victim's elder brother Md Shahjahan filed a murder case accusing unnamed people," the OC added.
