Waive charges till coronavirus situation improves: Aviation operators tell government

The Aviation Operators Association of Bangladesh (AOAB) today called upon the government to waive all kinds of aeronautical/non- aeronautical charges of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh incurred from February till improvement of the coronavirus situation.

In its emergency meeting, AOAB also urged the government to allow air operators to pay their loans without any interest at least for two quarters.

The meeting was held at the office of Maasranga Television in the capital with AOAB President Anjan Chowdhury, said a press release.

Mofizur Rahman, secretary general of AOAB, placed various proposals on how to save the private aviation industry from huge losses following the Covid-19.

Speakers in the emergency general meeting said the aviation industry had taken the biggest hit since the global outbreak of the virus.

They also said many airlines are on the verge of bankruptcy as income has come down to almost zero.

In its unanimous proposal to the government, AOAB also urged the government to waive the advanced tax in importing aircraft engines and spare parts and the excess duty or VAT on jet fuel for domestic operators.
