Voters’ list to be updated from Jan 2 to Mar 1 every year

The government has taken an initiative to amend the Voters' List Act 2009 with provision to update the list every year between January 2 and March 1.

The draft of the Voters' List (Amendment) Act 2019 was approved in principle at the Cabinet meeting held at Prime Minister’s Office today, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told journalists at a briefing at the Secretariat.

If the amended act is passed by the parliament then-new voters will have two more months to be included in the Voters’ List, the cabinet secretary said.

At present, the act has provision for updating the list between January 2 and January 31. The draft of the amended act has extended the voters’ list update deadline to March 31.
