Upazila chairman held
Detectives arrested the chairman of Sadullapur Upazila Parishad in a case for violence on the deputy commissioner's office premises in the district town on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, a court issued arrest warrent against the chairman, Saidur Rahman Munshi, also a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, in a case over attempted murder of Sharier Khan Biplob, secretary of the upazila unit of Awami League, filed in 2013.
Judicial Magistrate Muniruzzaman Sikder granted him bail in the attempted murder case following a petition filed by Saidur's lawyer on Sunday afternoon.
Despite granted bail, Saidur was held at court inspector's room. Later, he was released around 8:00pm.
The following day, when the UZ chairman reached the main gate of DC office, the law enforcers arrested him in the violence case filed earlier, said Shamim Hasan Sarder, officer-in-charge of DB police.
