UNO assaulted for stopping illegal construction

Some local youths physically assaulted Companiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Ashraful Alam at Chaprashir Hat in the upazila under Noakhali district yesterday.

The UNO along with the upazila food officer was going to Char Fakira union parishad office around 11:45am to visit the distribution of VGF rice among the locals, said Sajidur Rahman Sajid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station.

While crossing Chaprashir Hat, the officers found that some workers of Hanif Sukani were constructing a building at a government owned land.

The UNO ordered stopping the work and got a few pillars broken by the workers.

Within minutes, a group of youths, allegedly men of the owner of the under construction building, came to the spot and started beating the UNO. Locals rescued him and admitted him to Companiganj Hospital.

After taking treatment there, the UNO went to his residence.

A case will be filed against the miscreants, said the OC.
