UNDP, NHRC join hands with CRI to campaign for women’s safety

The Centre for Research and Information's (CRI) youth platform Young Bangla, in collaboration with UNDP and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), is going to start a campaign titled 'Women's Safety in Public Places (WSPP)'.

The campaign will be launched formally at 7:00pm today through a webinar, said sources at Young Bangla, the largest youth network in the country, which along with its related organisations has long been carrying out programmes to ensure women's empowerment and curbing violence against them.

As revealed by the partner organisations, the campaign will work extensively on raising awareness to stop violence against women and ensure education and empowerment of women, equal rights for both genders, said a CRI press release.

CRI Trustee and Co-chairman and Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) Thematic Ambassador Saima Wazed Hossain and UNDP Country Director Sudipto Mukherjee will attend the launching ceremony.

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Chief Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Zuena Aziz, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed will join a panel discussion as part of the online launching.

Earlier, in March, Young Bangla and Human Rights Programme of UNDP signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote 'Women's Safety in Public Places' campaign.

To this end, the youth organisation has already set some stepping stones towards women's safety and empowerment, and the latest campaign is set as one of those.

Young Bangla has, since its inception, been carrying out, along with its partner organisations, a series of activities such as workshops, seminars, and other events to boost up awareness about women's empowerment, said sources at the youth organisation, adding that this campaign will springboard that effort.
