Two sent to jail

A Chuadanga court on Monday sent two people to jail on charge of assaulting two bauls and burning down a baul akhra in Chuadanga on Saturday.

The arrestees are Nasir Uddin alias Kalu, 28, son of Abdul Jalil, and Alauddin alias Ala, 25, son of Molam Hossain of Madna village under Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga.

Abu Jihad Md Fakhrul Alam, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station, said police arrested them on Monday for their alleged involvement in the incident. Police teams raided their homes separately and arrested them, he added.

The arrestees were produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Chuadanga. Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdul Halim sent them to jail.

Unidentified criminals assaulted two bauls and set fire to their akhra at Gobindpur village in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga. The criminals also cut off their hair.

The bauls are Julmat Ali, 58 and his gurubhai (senior baul) Rinupada Halder, 66.

Julmat Ali, also mentor of the akhra, filed a case with Damurhuda Model Police Station on Saturday, accusing nine unnamed people.
