Two 'robbers' killed in gunfight with rivals
Police recovered bodies of two suspected robbers reportedly killed in a gun battle with their rivals at Sadar union of Teknaf upazila under the district early yesterday.
Jibon Ara Begum, a local woman later identified one of the deceased as her elder brother named Sorwar Alam, 35, whose body was kept at the district Sadar hospital morgue.
Alam hailed from Moheskhali Upazila, Cox's Bazar and was the main accused in the murder case of his uncle Abdul Gafur, member of Kutubjom Union Parishad, also president of the union Awami League unit. Gafur was killed on July 3.
The other deceased is Mohammad Ilias. who is also accused in AL leader Gafur murder case, said Mosharrf Hossain Khokon, chairman of Kutubjom Union Parishad.
Hearing that two groups of robber were fighting, police rushed to the No 14 Bridge area of Teknaf around 1:00am, said Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.
After reaching the spot, police recovered the two bodies from the roadside and later sent the bodies to Cox'z Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, he said.
Police recovered two guns and three bullets from the spot.
