Two including UPDF member shot dead in Khagrachhari

A local and a member of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) were shot dead by a group of unidentified criminals in remote Moddyo Banchhara area under Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari this morning.

The deceased were identified as Babu Chakma (37) of Nondeshor Karbari Para and Sudibyo Kanti Chakma (35) of Moddyo Banchhara, said MM Salauddin, Additional Superintendent of Police in the district, reports our Bandarban correspondent.

Babu Chakma is a member of UPDF, said Aongya Marma, organiser of UPDF's (Prasit Group) Khagrachhari unit, in a statement.

A group of armed criminals opened fire at the house of one Dilip Kumar Chakma in the area where Babu and Sudibyo were playing chess, leaving them dead, said local people.

The bodies are being sent to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said the ASP.

Proggyan Chakma, a union parishad chairman of the area, said that panic gripped in the area since the incident.
