Trishal people protest closure of Dhala rly station
Hundreds of people staged a demonstration at Dhala Railway Station in Trishal upazila of the district yesterday morning, protesting the closure of this century-old station since February 1 and demanding its immediate reopening.
They also demanded the stoppage of some commuter trains at the station.
The protesters put up a barricade on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway track at the station at around 6:00am, disrupting railway communication, said Abdul Ahad Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mymensingh Railway Police.
People from nearby villages, who use the railway station to go to Dhaka and Mymensingh region, alleged that the railway authorities closed the station without prior notice, causing immense suffering to them.
Being assured by the local administration that their demands would be considered immediately, the agitators lifted the blockade at 9:15am, police said.
Later, they submitted memorandums to the railway authorities and district and police administrations. They also threatened they would go for tougher movement if the station was not made operational within seven days.
