Tomorrow’s lottery for govt school admissions cancelled
Lottery for admissions to the 683 government schools across the country from class I to IX, which was scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education said today.
DSHE Director General Prof Syed Md Golam Faruk, in a circular this evening, said that the scheduled lottery was temporarily cancelled as a writ petition on the digital lottery system was pending with the High Court.
The new date of the lottery will be fixed soon, he also said.
School admissions for the coming academic session will be based on lottery and the application process will be done online.
The decision was made to avoid health risks amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Education Minister Dipu Moni had said on November 25.
Each year, several lakh students get fresh admission to schools across the country.
Till last year, schools took fresh students for all classes based on vacancy. But they enroll the bulk of students in class I, at the beginning of a students' academic life, and in class VI after completion of primary education.
Admission to the first grade used to take place through lotteries all over the country, while students got admitted to class IX based on their Junior School Certificate (JSC) or Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) results.
Students willing to enroll to other classes needed to take admission tests.
