Three robbers killed in Feni 'gunfight'
Three robbers were killed and another injured during a "gunfight" with police following a robbery incident in Feni's Daganbhuiyan upazila early today.
The robbers also murdered a night guard before the gunfight took place at Bekerbazar in the upazila, a correspondent reports from Feni.
The three robbers have been identified as Dulal Matobbar (45), Babul Molla (40) of Barguna district and Md Bidyut (32) of Naogaon district, while the night guard was Abdul Mannan (40) from Ashrafpur village.
Police seized a pipe gun, two sharp knives and a truck loaded with looted items from the place.
According to police and locals, a truck carrying a group of robbers reached a shop named B Shariat and Brothers on Feni-Noakhali road at Bekerbazar in the wee hours of today.
Soon after they reached, they broke down the shop's lock and started to loot its things and load the truck, they said.
When the night guard screamed seeing the burglary, they strangled him with a 'gamchha'.
Hearing his screams, locals gathered and tried to confine the burglars.
In the meantime, law enforcers also reached the spot and chased the criminals.
The criminals fired at the lawmen, forcing them to fire back and triggering a gunfight.
During the gunfight, one of the robbers died on the spot while three others received bullet wounds, police said.
Among the three, one died on the way to Daganbhuiyan Upazila Health Complex while another died on way to Feni 250-bed General Hospital.
Daganbhuiyan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Aslam Sikder confirmed the incident and said a case is being filed in this regard.
The bodies were sent to Feni General Hospital, he added.
