Three labourers die inhaling toxic gas in septic tank

Three day labourers died and another fell sick after inhaling toxic gas in a septic tank at Natun Bazar village in Companiganj upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Md Babul 30, son of Md Mostafa, Md Rafique, 35, son of Sheikh Ahmed, and Md Zafar, 35, son of Mofizul Hoque. Another affected labourer, Zafar Ullah, 34, of the same village was admitted to Companiganj Upazilla Health Complex.

Sajidur Rahman Sajid, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, quoting locals, said Babul, Rafique, Zafar and Zafar Ullah went into the septic tank at the house of Saudi expatriate Md Mohsin to clean it.

After a few minutes, they started shouting. Hearing the shouting, locals and the householder informed the Companiganj Fire Service Station. Fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of Babul, Rafique and Zafar. They rescued Zafar Ullah and took him to the health complex.

On information, police went to the spot and sent the bodies to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy.
