Three abducted kids, UP chairman aspirant rescued
Three abducted kids and a union parishad (UP) chairman aspirant were rescued in Sylhet and Kushtia districts yesterday and the day before.
Law enforcers also arrested seven people for their alleged involvement in the abduction.
Our Sylhet correspondent reported that police rescued three kids on Wednesday and arrested six alleged kidnappers during a drive at Bhadeswar Bazar in Golapganj upazila of the district. The rescued kids are Md Robi, 15, Russel, 13 and Habib, 13.
Quoting Robi's father, AKM Sajjadul Islam, assistant commissioner of Shahporan Police Station, said Robi was abducted on March 30 for ransom of Tk 100,000.
"Getting information, police conducted a drive in Bhadeswar Bazar and rescued Robi and two other kids. They also arrested six kidnappers from different places in Sylhet," he added.
The arrestees are Md Mainul Islam, 28, Md Munna, 20, Md Ali Ahmed, 20, Md Imon Miah, 18, Md Ismail Hossain, 32, and Md Russel, 18.
Away in Kushtia, police rescued a union parishad (UP) chairman candidate eight hours into his abduction for ransom, reports our correspondent.
Police also arrested four people for their alleged involved in the abduction.
The victim was identified as Rahman Khokon, 37. He is contesting for the post of chairman of Nandalalpur Union Parishad in Kumarkhali upazila as AL's rebel candidate.
Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station, said criminals confined Khokon to his rented house in Lahinipara area of the upazila at around 3:30am.
They tied his hands and gagged him. Later, the kidnappers demanded Tk 7 lakh from his family for his release.
Zannatul Rahman, wife of Khokon, informed Kumarkhali Police Station of the matter the same night.
"We rescued Khokon from the house at noon," the OC said.
Police also arrested house owner Moazzem Hossain along with three accomplices. Police said Moazzem was involved in the abduction.
Zannatul filed a case with the police station, accusing four people.
