Teacher sued for 'torturing' student

A case has been filed against an assistant teacher of Rupdia Welfare Academy School in Rupdia village under Jessore  Sadar upazila for allegedly beating up a student in the classroom.

Ilias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, said Roushanara Begum, mother of Mizanur Rahman, 15, a Class IX student of the school, filed the case against the teacher, Jamal Hossain, on Friday night.

According to the case statement, Mizanur Rahman was severely beaten up and injured by Jamal Hossain as he (Mizan) asked one of his classmates to pick up his pen, which had fallen on the floor, during the monthly test examination on Bangla first paper on Thursday.

Mizan went back to his house without completing the examination. He was later admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
