Teacher jailed for embezzling stipend
A mobile court in Sirajganj sentenced a primary schoolteacher to 15 days' imprisonment for misappropriating money of scholarship for students.
The convict is Md Abu Shama, 40, headmaster of Jamtoil Government Primary School in Belkuchi upazila.
On Sunday, local people including guardians besieged the school over misappropriation of money for student scholarship, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Saiful Islam.
Later, local administration rescued Shama from the spot and took him to the office of Saiful.
During an official inquiry, it was found that the accused headmaster handed over Tk 600 to 245 students each instead of Tk 1240 allotted by government, said the UNO.
The following day, the headmaster was produced before the court, led by the UNO, which punished him, said Md Anisur Rahman, OC of Belkuchi PS.
Later, the upazila primary education office issued a suspension order against the headmaster.
