Suspected cattle thief beaten dead in Bogura
A suspected cattle thief was killed in a mob beating in Bogura's Nandigram upazila last night.
The deceased is Ujjal Hossain (35), son of late Lokman of Var Tetulia Raypara village under the upazila, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting Shawkat Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nandigram police station.
Police and locals claimed that the man was known as a cattle thief active in the area.
Quoting locals, OC Shawkat said Ujjal Hossain entered into the cowshed of Belal Hossain at 1:00am at Shekher Maria village of the upazila last night.
When Ujjal was allegedly fleeing with a stolen cow, Belal raised a hue and cry, the OC said, adding that the villagers rushed to spot hearing the noise of Belal and beat Ujjall dead on the spot instead of handing him over to police.
Police recovered the body this morning and sent it to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College hospital morgue for autopsy, OC Shawkat said.
Asked, OC Shawkat said they will go for action as soon as family members of the deceased file case regarding the incident.
"If the family members do not file case, police will file a murder case against those involved in the incident", he said, adding that they are yet to detain anyone in this connection.
The OC, however, said the deceased was accused in three cases including a robbery.
