Supporters of Dhamrai councillor candidate stage demos; reject election result

The supporters of a councillor candidate of Dhamrai municipal elections staged demonstrations today bringing allegations of vote irregularities and rigging in a polling centre.

The supporters of Dhamrai ward no 8 councillor candidate Jahangir Alam blocked a road in front of Hafizul Islamia Madrasa polling centre in Islampur around 5:00pm after the voting ended.

"The election results of the polling centre have been rigged. We will continue the demonstration unless the results are corrected" said a protestor.

Kamruzzaman Khan, presiding officer of Hafizul Islamia Madrasa polling centre, told our Savar correspondent that councillor candidate Md Sahidullah got 689 votes while Jahangir Alam bagged 595 votes in the centre.

The presiding officer also said allegations of irregularities were false.
