Sunamganj gang-rape prime accused held in Brahmanbaria
Brahmanbaria police today arrested the prime accused in a case filed over the rape of a woman and the torture of her father in Sunamganj.
The arrestee, Shamim Ahmed, was held from Bertala area under Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila, said Roish Uddin, additional superintendent of police in Brahmanbaria district.
So far, including Shamim, six people have been arrested in the case.
Using technology, Shamim has been tracked while on the run over the last three days, the additional SP said, adding that he was last tracked at Sarail's Bertala area, from where detectives from Sunamganj police with the help of Sarail Police Station arrested Shamim.
On Monday night, Shamim along with his cohorts beat up the victim's father with iron rods after they could not find his daughter at their house in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj.
The man had sent his daughter away after Shamim and his associates had picked up the woman and gang-raped her a month ago, he alleged.
Police later brought the woman from Nabiganj area of Habiganj district on Tuesday morning and she filed a case with Jagannathpur Police Station in this connection.
