Students cry for a road

Our Correspondent, Bogra

There is no road for going to a primary school at a village in Vatgram union under Nandigram upazila of the district.

Around 150 students and five teachers have to wade through knee-deep water to reach the school during the rainy season, and also whenever it rains.

Villagers said local philanthropists established the school in Badshain village under the upazila in 1914.

But it had no road from the very beginning, and the students and teachers have to walk through knee-deep water to the school, they added.

Students said they are suffering from water-borne diseases due to wading through the water.

Guardian Haresh Uddin said they are worried that their minor children might meet with an accident while crossing the water-filled area.

Former member of the union parishad Kajem Uddin said the students go to the school despite the difficulties.

Headmistress Shamima Khatun said the authorities concerned have been informed about the matter, but no action has been taken as yet.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Nandigram Sharifunnessa said she was not aware of the matter.
