Stone worker dies in Sylhet

A stone worker died and two others were injured as part of a stone came crashing down on them at an illegal quarry in Kalairag area of Sylhet’s Companiganj upazila this morning.

The deceased was identified as Rubel Mia (24) of Krisnapur village under Khaliajuri upazila in Netrakona, our Sylhet correspondent reports quoting upazila administration officials.

The landslide occurred at the quarry, controlled by Ershad Mia of Baluchar village of Kalairag area, around 11:00am, the correspondent quoted locals.

Fire service and police recovered the body of Rubel and took him to Sylhet Osmani Hospital for autopsy, said Suman Acharya, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Companyganj.

The injured were undergoing treatment at the same hospital, he said.

Search is on to find out whether anyone is buried under the mud, he added.
