Six of a family held while going to India illegally
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained six members of a family while they were going to India illegally through Dangapara border in Patgram upazila of the district on Saturday.
The arrestees are Chini Gopal Roy, 45, his wife Alpona Rani Roy, 35, their son Anurup Roy, 14, daughters Shraboni Roy, 3, and Shanta Rani Sarker, 19, and Shanta's husband Basudev Sarker, 29. They all hail from Fainpur village in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district.
Nayek Subedar Hafizur Rahman, BGB camp commander at Dahagram, said acting on a tip-off, a team of the border guards raided the area early Saturday and detained the six while they were crossing the border without valid documents.
Contacted Chini Gopal said his elder brother, who lives in India, is in a very critical condition.
Although, they have passports, they didn't have time to go for visa process, and so, they decided to cross the border illegally with the help of the brokers, Chini added.
Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim of Patgram Police Station said the arrestees were produced before a court yesterday morning that sent them to the jail.
Quoting the victims, police said two brokers Mainul Islam, 32, and Rafique Mandal, 34, who lives metres away from the border line, looted Tk 50 thousand and gold ornaments worth around Tk 2 lakh from the victims' possession.
