Six drug addicts jailed in Rangpur

A mobile court in Pirgachha upazila sentenced six drug addicts to jail yesterday.

Md Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge Pirgachha Police Station, said a team of the Narcotics Control Department in Rangpur, led by inspector Anwarul Habib, conducted drives in different areas of the upazila on Tuesday night and arrested the six while they were taking drugs.

They were produced before the mobile court led by Aliya Ferdous Jahan, executive magistrate and also the upazila nirbahi ofiicer, yesterday morning.

The court sentenced Ekhlasur Rahman, 25, of Monurchhara village to two months in jail while Ataur Rahman, 24, of Sharif Sundar village to six months; Shambhu Chandra, 25, of Sharif Sundar village to one month; Dulal Mian, 32, of  Nagdah village to one month; Anwar Hossain, 35, of Baniatari village to six months; and Rubel Mian, 28, of Guabari village to one month.

They were sent to Rangpur Central Jail yesterday noon.
