Schoolgirl raped in Manikganj

A schoolgirl was raped allegedly by a youth at Jhitka Gachhipara village in Harirampur upazila of the district on Friday.

The eighth grader is now undergoing treatment at Manikganj Sadar Hospital, said Dr Md Lutfar Rahman of the hospital.

"Milton Hajari, 22, of the village, entered my room on Friday afternoon, tied hands and legs and raped me. He also threatened me with death if I disclosed the matter to anyone," the victim told this correspondent at the hospital bed.

Contacted, Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Harirampur Police Station, said they are yet to get any compliant in this regard.

Away in Tangail, police on Friday arrested a union parishad (UP) chairman from his house on charge of arranging an arbitration over a rape incident in Delduar upazila of the district.

The arrestee is Illias Ali, newly elected chairman of Dubail Union Parishad, reports our correspondent.

Earlier on Thursday, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two youths --Sohan, 18, of Natiapara village, and Shakil, 19, of Kopakhi village -- from their houses on charge of raping an 11-year-old girl, a Class III student.

On May 29, the youths picked up the girl from her house at Kopakhi village and took her to an abandoned house in the area. They later raped her.

She was sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital for medical test, said police.
