Schoolboy strangled in Jamalpur, killer held

Police recovered the body of a schoolboy on Wednesday night, 19 days after he went missing from Alokdia village under Melandah upazila of the district.

The deceased, identified as Md Habibur Rahman, 15, son of Abdul Hakim of village Bojarddipara under the upazila, was a Class IX student of local Shihata Gomij Uddin High School.

Police said Habib went missing around 9:30pm on October 2. Relatives searched for the boy, but could not find him.

Victim' father, Abdul Hakim, filed a General Diary (GD) with Melandah Police Station on October 5.

As per the GD, police detained one of Habib's friends, Md Parvez, 20, son of Shahin of the village, from his house on Wednesday noon.

During interrogation, Parvez gave a confessional statement to the police, saying he had a homosexual relationship with Habib. Recently, Habib had expressed unwillingness to continue the relationship, police said.

On October 2 night, Parvez took Habib to his house and strangled him to death, said Khairul Islam, sub-inspector of the police station and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case.

After killing the boy, Parvez buried the body in the space behind his house, the IO said quoting Parvez.

Police exhumed the body of the missing schoolboy from the spot at around 10:30pm and sent it to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy, the IO added.

Victim's father Abdul Hakim filed a murder case with Melandah Police Station yesterday morning, accusing Parvez.
