Robbers loot jewellery shop, stab 2 in Rangpur
Robbers looted 100 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 8 lakh from a jewellery shop after stabbing two people at a bazar in Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur district yesterday.
The injured are Md Anwar Ali, 25, and Md Belal Hossain, 27, staff of a nearby shop. They were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
A gang of 20 stormed into Sumita Jewellers at Pirgachha Bazar around 3:00am and took away the gold ornaments and the cash worth about Tk 50 lakh, said affected shop owner Ramaji Lal.
The robbers also stabbed Anwar and Belal as they tried to prevent them.
Ramaji claimed that the robbery incident was filmed on the close circuit camera (CCTV) installed inside the shop.
Contacted, Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pirgachha Police Station, said he is yet to get the camera footage from the shop owner.
Away in Jhenidah, police arrested three alleged muggers from Baparipara and TV Centre area of the district town on Saturday.
They also seized Tk 50,000 and two motorbikes from their possession, reports our correspondent.
The arrestees are Sujan Hossain, 27, of Chowgachha upazila in Jessore, and Imran Hossain, 32, of sadar upazila, and his wife Ratna Khatun.
On May 29, a gang took away Tk 10.8 lakh and a cheque for Tk 4.50 lakh after shooting the manager of Rezaul Filling Station when he was going to Pubali Bank branch in the town to deposit the money.
Later, a case was filed in connection with the incident, said OC Hasan Hafizur Rahman of Sadar Police Station.
