‘Robber’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’ with Rab

An alleged robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on the Kushtia-Meherpur highway in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia early today.

The deceased was identified as Mukul Munshi, 45, son of Yusuf Munshi, a resident of Paschim Bahirchar Barmile village of Bheramara upazila and a member of an inter-district robber gang.

He was also accused in six robbery cases with different police stations including Bheramara police station.

Commander Major Mosaddek Ibne Mujib of Rab-12 said on secret information that a gang of robbers numbering 7-8 were taking preparation for committing robbery; a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area around 3:00am.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

The gun battle left Mukul dead on the spot while his other associates managed to flee away.

However, Rab recovered a pistol, a magazine, two rounds of bullet and two machetes from the scene.

The body was sent to Kushtia General Hospital for an autopsy.
