Robber killed in 'gunfight' with cops

An alleged robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with police in Shahilpur area under Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria district early yesterday.

Receiving information that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit a robbery in Shahilpur village, police conducted a drive in the area, said Md Moinur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Police Station.

Sensing the presence of the police, the robbers opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, the OC said, adding that one of the gang members died on the spot while the rest managed to flee.

Four policemen were injured during the gunfight. They were given first aid at Sadar Hospital, police said.
