‘Robber’ killed in Barisal ‘gunfight’ with cops
An alleged robber was killed in a "gunfight" with police in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal early today.
Deceased Farid alias Khokon, 36, was the ringleader of a robber group locally known as "Khokon Bahani", our Barisal correspondent reports quoting Harun-or Rashid, acting officer-in-charge of Bakerganj Police Station.
He was wanted in 16 cases including murder, robbery and blasts, the OC said.
Farid, son of Zabed Ali of Maheshpur village in Bakerganj, was arrested yesterday morning from a hideout in the upazila, the OC said.
Based on his information, police led by Assistant Superintendent of Barisal Police (ASP) Sahabuddin Kabir raided Pourasava Govt Primary School under ward No. 7 around 1:00am, the police official said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, his cohorts opened fire targeting police, forcing them to retaliate. "Farid came in the line of fire and suffered bullet wounds." the OC added.
He was taken to Bakerganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered a shutter gun, a pipe gun, two sharp weapons and nine bullets from the spot.
