Robber beaten to death

An alleged robber was beaten to death while another was injured in Chirircandar upazila of Dinajpur yesterday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Azizul Islam Kala, 45, son of Fazlu Mia of Alokdihi village under the upazila. Md Mahbub, 40, son of Abdul Jabbar of Jahanabad village under Parbatipur upazila was injured and is being treated at Saidpur Upazila Health Complex, police said.

A gang of 10 robbers gathered at Kamarpara village under Yusubpur union in the upazila at around 2:00am. Suspecting that they were robbers, the villagers encircled the gang to catch them. The villagers caught two of them while the others managed to flee, police said.

Later, a mob beat them up, leaving Azizul dead on the spot, said Abu Haidar Liton, chairman of Yusubpur union.

Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar Upazila Police Station, said police rescued Mahbub from the mob and sent him to Saidpur Upazila Health Complex.
