Road accident kills minor girl in Dhaka
A bus dragged a ten-year-old girl and crushed her under its wheels near Bijoy Smarani area of Dhaka this afternoon.
The deceased, Marzana, 10, was returning from Tongi sitting on the back seat of her father Mizanur Rahman’s motorbike after offering prayers at Biswa Ijtema, Kamal Uddin, inspector of Tejgaon Police Station, told The Daily Star.
Marzana along with his father Mizanur fell off the motorbike after a bus of “Dewan Paribahan” hit them from behind when the motorbike turned left near the Bijoy Smarani area, just a few yards away of Tejgaon Police Station, the police official said.
Then, the driver crushed the girl under wheels of the bus, leaving her dead on the spot, Inspector Kamal also said.
Shamin Yasar Shakib, a witness, said the girl died on the spot within seconds.
Police recovered the body of the victim and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The victim’s father Mizanur Rahman, who is principal of Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in Gazipur, also sustained injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
The driver did not stop the bus until the passengers’ hue and cry forced him to stop the bus in front of the nearby police facility, the police official also said.
Later, the driver went to the police station and told police officials about the accident.
Police detained the bus driver Sohel Rana and seized the bus, the official said.
Filing of a case in this connection was underway, the police inspector added.
